What are "Bad Fats" and "Good Fats"? "Bad-Fats" such as hydrogenated, trans-fatty acids and fat substitutes make a bad situation even worse by serving as surrogates to the essential fatty acids. Nutritional lipids, while classified as fats or oils are the "Good Fats" and act in the body in the exact opposite way of saturated and "Bad-Fats". They are the antidote if you will, to the unhealthy forms of fat in our diet.
Why are essential fatty acids so important for the human body? Certain fats are required for good health and can actually prevent health challengers. Omega-3, Omega-6 and Omega-9 are essential fatty acids (EFA). These healing essential fatty acids provide the body with both structural and functional attributes.
Are there enough essential fatty acids in the food we eat? Modern methods of food manufacturing have destroyed or eliminated essential components known as "nutritional lipids" from our food supply. These lipids, or "health" fats, are absolutely essential for optimal health and life. Yet, we are getting less that 0.1% of these vital nutrients in our Standard American Diet (SAD) and 60% of the North American population is deficient in essential fatty acids (EFA).
What is the function of essential fatty acids? Essential fatty acids provide the body with both structural and functional attributes. Each cell in the human body is composed of a fatty acid membrane. This membrane is in fact the brain of the cell regulating the flow of minerals, water, nutrients and oxygen.
